Lithium-polymer batteries (LiPo) are the successors to the well-known lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery packs. The main advantage of LiPo batteries is undoubtedly their capacity-to-size ratio. They are very compact while maintaining high current efficiency, making it possible to choose a suitable battery pack for virtually any AEG replica. They do not suffer from memory effect and can be recharged very frequently without prior discharge. Frequent charging is beneficial for this type of battery.

It is important not to discharge a LiPo battery below 3V per cell or overcharge it above 4.2V per cell. Another advantage of LiPo batteries is their low self-discharge rate. An unused battery loses approximately 3–5% of its energy per month. The battery should still be monitored, as very long storage periods may result in discharge below the minimum safe value (3V per cell), causing irreversible chemical reactions that may degrade the battery’s performance, permanently damage it, or in extreme cases even cause ignition. An unused LiPo battery should be stored charged to approximately 70%.

With proper use, the average lifespan of LiPo batteries is around 500–700 charge cycles. An important aspect is the operating temperature range of LiPo batteries. Unlike other battery types, LiPo cells perform well in low temperatures. However, they should be charged at room temperature. To maintain good battery condition, LiPo batteries should be balanced during charging using the service connector included in most LiPo packs (a good LiPo charger includes a built-in balancer).
