Licensed replicas, trademarks, manufacturer's markings
Before anyone thought of using replicas for competitions, they were sold as collector's models, often for self-assembly. The function of firing plastic balls was just an extra, and manufacturers focused primarily on reproducing the details as closely as possible. At that time, companies producing airsoft guns began to cooperate with manufacturers of originals, using their logos and trademarks. Over time, airsoft has become a pastime that consists not only in collecting replicas but also in participating in matches with their use. However, for many shooting enthusiasts, owning an airsoft guns with a trademark is still important, especially as replicas are increasingly used by military groups, as well as actual police and military units - for tactical training.
The manufacturer's involvement in the replica process varies. From agreeing to use the name, logo, or full markings, to participating in the production process. In the case of some models, parts are manufactured from the same materials, or even with the same technique, as the originals. The level of reproduction is sometimes so high that selected exterior parts, in some countries, have to be marked in a bright colour to be allowed for sale.
