Molle - the American gear carry system
If you regularly participate in airsoft or survival outings, you are surely well aware of how useful functional gear is. Specially designed vests, backpacks and other accessories allow you to conveniently carry the most necessary items. Most, if not all, were created for military purposes, and only later were adopted by civilians. The Molle system is one example of such “takeover”.
This American system has been in use for many years, also by civilians who engage in various types of field activities. It’s special-tasks gear that works well in exceptional situations, and some of its elements can also be very useful in everyday life.
What is the Molle system?
Molle is the most up-to-date military gear carry system. Instead of specific equipment, it focuses on a system of webbing and straps to which individual accessories such as a hip bag, organizer or additional pockets can be attached. The most important element of the system is therefore the Molle belt and straps. They are sewn on to, for example, a tactical vest, to which you can attach additional equipment - pockets and pouches, or even holsters.
It is a very universal solution that allows for individual arrangement. It is up to you to decide whether you need one or maybe four pouches. The Molle straps and belt do not take up much space, so they’ve been attached to all - including the smaller ones - elements included in the equipment. Molle is currently the most functional gear system - hence its popularity and widespread use in various forces around the world.
What are the elements of the Molle system?
Molle consists of a basic and patrol Molle backpack, a modular vest, a set of pockets and pouches, irrigation and repair systems, and a haversack attached to the hip. The Molle vest is not equipped with any pockets, but with the aforementioned straps, to which various pouches and pockets are attached. Thanks to this, it can be used by many types of uniformed operators.
For example, the Molle first-aid pouch has been designed especially for paramedics. The grenadier, on the other hand, will be provided with special pockets for carrying grenades. Therefore, both aforementioned operators can wear the same vest, but attach different pockets and pouches to it - depending on the function performed and the resulting tactical requirements.
Functional Molle backpacks
Military backpacks are a basic tool for carrying all sorts of gear. Therefore, they must be durable, roomy, comfortable and functional. These are all qualities featured in backpacks in the Molle system, introducing new and more solid attachment points for quick assembly of the frame. The basic backpack has two main compartments, and additional pockets of different capacity can be attached to the sewn-on straps. It opens both from the top and the bottom, so you can quickly retrieve items from the bottom of the backpack without having to pull all your gear out first.
The patrol backpack is of course much smaller and consists of a larger compartment, as well as a smaller pocket, closed by means of a Velcro stripe. This allows for convenient carry of a radio or a hydration system, as well as attaching additional pockets to the backpack.
Other Molle accessories
Accessories featured in this system also include a thigh panel and a Molle tactical belt. They are also equipped with a mounting system consisting of straps, to which you can attach pockets and any type of pouch. You can install any basic belt in the tactical belt. The Molle thigh panel, on the other hand, is equipped with additional straps for secure mounting on the thigh. Both accessories are designed to carry smaller but important items that a soldier should always have at hand. One of the basic ones is the Molle holster - equipped with a special adapter that can be attached to a vest, belt or other gear.
The use of Molle as tactical and survival equipment
You too can capitalize on the benefits of the Molle system - many tactical equipment manufacturers utilize the idea. They equip their products with straps, allowing the user to create any configuration consisting of individual accessories. Thanks to this, you can set up your equipment according to given circumstances - both during outings and in everyday use.
The Molle vest, belt or pouch are vital, special-task dedicated pieces of gear, extremely handy during survival escapades or airsoft skirmishes. Whenever you need to pack more gear - use an organizer and additional pockets, expanding the capacity of already roomy and functional backpacks. On a daily basis, a smaller backpack or a Molle bag should suffice - you can always add on extra elements, depending on your plans for a given day.
The biggest advantage of the discussed system is its versatility and the possibility of adapting the set of accessories to tasks and needs. The Molle equipment carry system is the perfect solution, whether for work or other outdoor activities. After all, you most definitely need comfortable and functional tools to carry all the necessary gear, which will complement each other.
