How to set up a red dot sight?
The red dot sight is one of the most commonly used aiming devices. It is used for both firearms and pneumatic weapons, such as airsoft guns and competitive shooting. The popularity of the red dot sight stems from its ease of use and the ability to quickly and accurately take shots, provided it is properly fitted to the firearm/airsoft gun and then correctly adjusted.
Practical application of red dot sights
The main advantages of a red dot sight include ease of use and the ability to make rapid and accurate shots. Unlike traditional crosshairs found in scopes or the alignment of three aiming points in mechanical sights, red dot sights do not require a lengthy preparation for a shot or complex adjustments. (The simplest designs display a red dot in the sight's field of view. More advanced models have elaborate reticles, and there are also models with adjustable dot shapes. It is recommended to start with a basic model that displays a simple dot. Red dot sights perform well even in low visibility conditions, resulting from insufficient light.

How to mount a red dot sight on a firearm or airsoft gun?
Mounting a red dot sight can be done using various systems, but a common standard is the RIS rail. This rail can be found on both firearms and many airsoft guns, whether you are attaching an airsoft gun red dot sight or a professional firearm aiming device. The process is likely to be the same, but the distinction we mentioned is crucial.
Although you can install a red dot sight designed for firearms on a pneumatic weapon, the reverse may not work well. An airsoft red dot sight is constructed to withstand vibrations caused by the airsoft gun, which are much smaller than those of a real firearm. Using this device on real firearms exposes it to excessive stress and may lead to damage.

How to properly adjust a red dot sight?
Calibrating a red dot sight is not difficult but requires a bit of time and ongoing checks to ensure everything is working correctly. We can also provide you with a method for preliminary adjustment of the red dot sight - from an initial distance of 10 meters to a final distance of 25 meters.
1. Mount the red dot sight in the dedicated spot on your airsoft gun. For AR-15/M4/M16 platforms, the entire top rail of the upper receiver is the suitable location—avoid installing optics on the front handguard. This area is dedicated to accessories. An issue may arise with the AK platform, which was not initially designed for optic mounting. Fortunately, airsoft gun manufacturers offer models with factory solutions for optic mounting. Depending on the model, you may have a mounting system using a dovetail. This is a side mount that attaches to the dust cover. You may also encounter specially designed dust covers with optic mounting slots. These are the most recommended places for optic mounting on the AK platform. In these airsoft guns, you may also find special mounts that attach to the front sight or encounter railed handguard models. In the case of more exotic designs, you may not have the option to mount optical devices, or this option becomes available after purchasing dedicated accessories.
2. When shooting your firearm or airsoft gun, the key principle crucial for the proper zeroing operation of optical devices is to ensure a comfortable and stable shooting position. Build a comfortable and stable shooting position for your airsoft gun using cushions or sandbags. It is recommended to shoot from a lying or sitting position. During the construction of a correct shooting position, focus on minimizing the movement of the aiming point during the shooting procedure.
3. After correctly mounting the optic and building the shooting position, check the shift point of the reticle relative to the barrel axis and its height. Initially, you can move the aiming point above the barrel axis. Then, fire a 4-shot series in a safe direction, preferably towards a cardboard target that will neatly catch all the projectiles without tearing the paper. After the series, check where the shots landed, determine the approximate center of impact, and then move the aiming point to that location. Apply the principle of starting the sighting process from close distances, gradually increasing it until you set the red dot sight to your satisfying range. Avoid taking the airsoft gun with you every time you approach the target to check the hits.
4. Remember to use the best quality BBs and the hop-up setting you use most frequently when firing your airsoft gun.
5. Before any shooting activity with airsoft airsoft guns, check the surrounding area to eliminate the risk of hitting third parties, especially in the line of fire.

Success also depends on proven red dot sights - from Theta Optics dedicated to airsoft guns, through Vortex, to those from the Buckler brand designed for firearms. You don't have to choose the most advanced models because they are typically reserved for professionals, but it's worth investing in a high-quality red dot sight.
